Common Sense & Family Matters

“Anglophone” bride killed in Quebec

August 24th 2012 was supposed to be a happy time for the bride-to-be, accompanied by family and friends doing a photo shoot just days before her wedding at the Dorwin falls just north of Montreal. Apparently she lost her footing standing on some rocks and was swept away by the current.

“She was Anglophone, and she started screaming, ‘Help!'” the witness said.

Excuse me? While it appears the photographer tried to pull her from the water, were the others gathered there just standing around in confusion not knowing what the Anglophone word “help” meant? Was this a family member? Surely then they knew the meaning of it one would think anyways? Only one person there came to her aid, and none of them jumped in after her? They just stood there watching as she was carried away screaming this foreign word? I find it extremely bizarre and more than a little disturbing that this “witness” felt compelled to describe this person as an anglophone and not just “a woman”, Or perhaps even her friend, the bride, that poor woman, anything other than identifying her by what language she was pleading for help in.

I wonder, if she was a francophone yelling for help in the water would someone actually have jumped in and tried to save her?

What the hell is going on.

  1. is that all the witness had to add to this tragedy? And then what happened ….the story seems to end with no further words spoken from the witness…what did he/she do then? It’s obvious this person knew what she was saying in order to regurgitate it to the press? Who is leaving the rest of the story out here ? The witness or the journalist? Was the first thing out of this witnesses mouth really that she was an Anglophone? Why in hell would anyone feel the need to say this unless you were an asshole francophone!!! unbelievable…

  2. What do you expect from a bunch of xenophobic bastards that only put up road work warning signs in joual. Aided and abetted by Harper and his French language cops raiding airports.

  3. You think it’s Prime Minister Harper responsible for the french only signs?

  4. A generation of Anglo/immigration( ironic) bigotry has unleashed this type of journalism. They know nothing else, they refuse to leave the Province and research the RoC in a fair and balanced way. They function and exist in a perpetual ‘inferiority complex’ and now…….a sense of entitlement for both their language and economy. They have NO idea what happens outside their borders nor who pays for what happens within it. This poor Bride is identified with an adjective that describes her language? Shameful!

I cannot believe that this has happened in a generation. A once beautiful, vibrant, full of potential Province has succumbed to nothing more than the has-been millionaire and all because their perceived identity survives only in a language. Pathetic! They have so much to give but they have only learned to take.

  5. I would not be too quick to say it was because she was anglophone. Remember the famous shooting of female students (yeah, the one the Liberals milked for all it was worth) while not a single male was willing to help them. It isn’t however only in Quebec where this happens. What about a bus load of passengers who did nothing while a deranged passenger killed and proceeded to eat a fellow passenger. Canadians for whatever reason mostly prefer to ignore those calling for help nowadays, which is a sad reflection on our society.

      • This is sick. wtf is wrong with people. Anglophone? Beast, I assume we’re to derive that she was from a ‘lesser’ society. People need to take note of that. Maybe the guest was appalled that an english speaking woman would embarras themselves by having the nerve to drown in ‘their’ sacred waters.

I’m sure you feel entitled to way more than your fair share because mommy and daddy told you how very special you truly are from the very moment you took your first breath. Here’s a thought, take your sorry ass back to France. You’re not wanted in Canada and yes, I am very intolerant to those who think they are some how ‘set apart’ from the rest or some how think your words, language or culture makes you a better human being. Seriously, who do you think you are?

Pierre Poutine, take your best shot. If Canada called your bluff, you’d all be screaming to stay.

They can take all their debt and forget having the strong Canadian Dollar. Hell, give them the entire province of Quebec, see how long they last. I’m thinking we’ll be calling it an ‘extinct society’ in no time.

  7. Now there are different versions of the story

    • Different version but there was still a person who stated the anglophone comment. That much is true. She was a beautiful lady, so sad. What I don’t agree with – regarding this new article is for them to do anything about the lake. we cannot prevent everything no matter how hard we try because 1 person died. The better way to approach this is to teach others not to take such risks, plain and simple. Its not the lake/waters fault. it was her dress that weighed her down.
