Just a little CONSerned

Common Sense & Family Matters

North Korea, Iran, Atomic Bomb: Had Enough Yet?

One has to imagine what a civilized society must think looking down on the Earth. More than one movie has been made about humans being on the brink of extinction at the hands of an Alien race either because of our shortcomings, or just because they’re nasty. Let’s look at the latter first, if it’s because they are just as/or more violent than we are then really we don’t have a chance. If it’s because they are peace loving and here to offer guidance and support, would we shoot first and ask questions later? In the year 2009 we are still a war-faring race and today and as you browse the net we are again possibly looking at a nuclear showdown. 2009!

Would it shock you to know that humans have been involved in some type of warfare for over 5,000 years? It shocked me, not just how long it has been going on, but how many there have been. Start here, and that’s just the wars BEFORE the year 1000. Just exactly how long is it going to take before we stop killing ourselves because of religion, geography, or wealth?

The United States is in the process of expanding it’s current campaigns to include the situation regarding North Korea. For those of you not aware of what I am talking about, perhaps you should read the news from time to time. After the illegal tests of a nuclear device the North Koreans are suspected of preparing for a third, while telling the world that if anyone interferes, they will consider it an act of war. Never mind the fact that they are in deviance of numerous UN resolutions and signed treaties. So in fact they have already done that themselves, really let’s call a spade a spade. They are also preparing for what seems to be another test of their long range missile.

The USS John McCain has been tracking a North Korean vessel suspected of transporting illegal arms, and is waiting off the coast of China in case it is ordered to intercept. One has to wonder what is on board, and where it might be going. Considering the current situation in Iraq, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan having a vessel carrying possible nuclear weapons to Singapore is not a very pleasant thought. That is the suspected destination.

By now most of you have heard of the turmoil in Iran regarding the most recent election results there. While the Supreme leader boasts progress because of voter turnout, it is hard to view it as progress while witnessing the violence and deaths taking place as the results of the election are in dispute.

So while the world is coming to grips with swine flu, missing children, global warming, and David Letterman’s joke about Sara Palin.  Warships in the Pacific are on standby, anti-missile sites in the US are being deployed, and Canadian military assets are being mobilized to assist in the detection and interception of any threat. Both Governments are confident any launch could be intercepted well before any danger to US or Canadian soil.

When are we all just going to get along?

Have you had enough yet?

  1. I know I have its ridiculous because its not just Al Qaeda etc that kill in the name religion. I mean the U.S its self made it about god in certain aspects. I know that is very controversial to say but its true.

I think if N.Kore were to attempt to bomb the U.S that maybe just be economic suicide for them. China may be one of their allies but they have a lot of investments into the United States as well as we have invested in them..(cough walmart cough).

I do think the united states needs to learn from Bush err past mistakes…do not preemptively strike.. do not get the United States kicked out of the U.N for goodness sakes! We will need to keep our eyes peeled in all directions, I do fear some how they are using a “decoy” for something else to hit us out of left field.

There is always a personal gain going into a war, its true safety maybe involved but.. there is always something to gain.

Greed is a heavy force behind war.

  3. I’m not sure we can, in this day and age, call ourselves civalized societies. If the people on this planet put all their wealth and energy into helping one another, instead of plotting against each other, what a wonderful place this could be. What is with all this posturing by N. Korea? What is the point? What is hoped to be gained? Why isn’t Russia and China leaning on N. Korea? And what is the point of the U.N. again? Oh yeah, to publicly state they denounce such acts but when was the last time they ever did anything about it? When was the last time they did anything?

We’ve still got war going on in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Taliban has never gone away and is now affecting Pakistan, we still have horrors and genocide taking place in Africa but no one is too concerned with that as there isn’t any oil involved. N. Korea has spit in the face of the U.N. and all they do is “denounce” N. Korea’s actions and threaten sanctions. WHATEVER.

No one trusts anyone else, everyone wants to have a bigger, badder, more lethal weapon of mass destruction than their neighbor and agreements/treaties that are made aren’t worth the paper they are written on. I have no idea how to solve any of this. I don’t know how to fix it. I don’t know how to take back the damage our country and others have done in order to be trusted again. There is no simple solution. War on foreign soil may be a thing of the past in coming years and Americans better wake up. 911 was only a glimpse into what is headed our way. We’re so used to being safe and secure while we fight our wars in someone else’s backyard. Technology has changed folks…you are no longer unreachable and it may just be too late to “kiss and make up” with all the people we’ve stepped on to become the one and only “Super Power”. Was it worth it?

    • Exactly Jules back when 9/11 happened and we entered Iraq and it made me scratch my head and go “what?”. I would have debates with a class mate of mine about it, they say reasoning is to help the Iraq people and kick Saddam out of power etc. I brought up the very point there are other countries that truly need our help, people living as refugee’s enduring rape, torture and things you do not even wanna think of that happen to their children. They got stomped a little then I said its because there is Oil in Iraq! I know of some service men who would keep watch on the oil over there.. nuts!

One thing that is making me mad too is the pressure on Obama to say more on the Iran elections.. Uhh stay the eff out is what I would say because how many more people do we wanna piss off?

      🙄

Sadly technology works in our advantages and disadvantages..

The greed for more and more powerful weapons.

Good article Sean! Forgot to say that as well!

  4. BTW – another great article Sean. Thank you for the time and energy you put into writing these! I really enjoy the way you always make me stop and think and perhaps see things a little differently or at least consider things I hadn’t previously. Thank you again for all the work you put into this blog. MUCH appreciated!
