Just a little CONSerned

Consumer ripoff Alert

Everybody loves a nice rack of ribs on the BBQ once in a while unless of course you’re a vegan, and in that case there is nothing I can do for you. So I noticed this tempting looking package of ribs at Giant Tiger today whilst I was perusing the frozen food isle, and I thought like everyone else likely would,  yummy! However after getting home and heating things up to get cooking, two tiny little pieces came out of this enormous box, and we were shocked.

This cost $10.00, at Giant Tiger.

Now either one or two pieces are missing from the package, or the price is too high, and the packaging is outrageously misleading and environmentally insulting.

COBBLESTONE FARMS, you should be ashamed. For the same price at a grocery store I could have purchased twice as much and be able to see it first. I guess consider it a lesson. Must be a Liberal owned company.

  2. My husband & I were thoroughly discusted with the piddly amount in the boxes we baught this week, we had initially planned on company but time was a huge factor so we decided to only open one box and found we were so glad they didn’t come because there was only two small peices, mainly consisting of bones & we had to open the second box to make a meal for the two of us! I will never purchase anything from this company again, mainly because it is hidden behind a very deceiving box, to me this is false advertizing! I too want to contact the company and let them know how I feel but can’t find an address! although the other company name on the box we purchased is (SKILCOR FOOD PRODUCTS INC. BRAMPTON ONTARIO CANADA L6T 5H4) Hopefully this will help everyone who would like to make your voices heard as well!

  3. I just opened my box of cobblestone farms ribs. 3 little pieces of ribs fell out. each with 2 tiny bones. How seriously disappointing. This is how I found your comment. I have purchased ribs like this before (a different brand) and they were EXCELLENT. Very tasty, and the box was the size of the ribs.
I very much want to write this company, but can’t find any info on them.

To all those who scoff at buying meat like this, or from Giant Tiger…I bought mine from Sobeys – same exact ones. As if you have never purchased prepackaged meat before. Hamburgers in a box that you cannot see?? How about chicken fingers? or Prepared meals? get serious.

  4. First mistake was buying prepackaged frozen meat that you couldn’t ‘look at’. The pictures on the box always look way better than what’s actually inside the box… that’s why advertising agencies get paid big bucks.

The best way to avoid ripoffs like this is by buying food you can see. In plastic bags at least. And if you really want to save money then go to a ‘wholesale’ store where you can buy a large joint of meat. I might spend $70 on a chunk of meat, but by the time I’ve cut it up and packed it into the freezer I’ve got the equivalent of $200 if I had bought it already done at the grocery store. AND I know it’s been properly cleaned and handled… as well as being in portion sizes needed. Don’t have to worry about left-overs.

    Ah well, live and learn.

  5. Just another reason to take the time to cook from scratch – you know what you’re getting and what you’re putting in your body. For ten bucks you can get a goodly rack of fresh side ribs and a bottle of house-brand sauce. A few bucks more will get you back ribs and if you have a bbq you can smoke ‘em to delectable perfection for not much dinero. No need to buy pre-cooked, frozen crap that I wouldn’t even serve my dogs. But meh, whatever floats your boat i guess – just don’t bitch and moan when you buy semi-pre-digested, high-fat, high-sodium crap and it turns out to be….. Oh, I
    don’t know…..crap?

  7. Did you wieght it?

I have been reading some articles that in order to deal with inflation pressures and the highe3r cost of ingredients, not wanting to charge more and scare off their customers, some companies have changed the size of their food, keeping the same packaging and price.

YOu can see this in other products such as granola cereals and bread. Get used to it.

However they have a great deal on director’s chairs with attached side-table. Just bought one and it is a keeper for camping etc. Very light.

  9. Funny! I’ve fallen victim to this one as well. Also, watch out for the “Classic” Schneider Chicken fingers box that comes with Plum sauce. HUGE package of plum sauce and very few chicken fingers in the 454kg box
