H1N1 – Yes or No to Vaccine?
On the surface the answer may seem to be quite simple, as most people just take for granted what they are told as being the truth and follow the advice of the Health Officials. They are supposed to be the experts and are looking out for us, right? But after starting to dig a little deeper into this subject the facts are not so solid, and in reality there is a lot of doubt as to what benefit this vaccine can offer. And there are real concerns that the vaccine itself could be harmful, and in some cases fatal.
In this episode of 60 minutes from 1979, lawsuits against the Government are mentioned because the vaccine did more damage than good. In this video a cheerleader experiences something very tragic after getting a shot, doctors say it is Dystonia. She was perfectly healthy before getting the vaccine. Is it worth the risk? I am not going to pass judgment on the whole topic, except to say we have kept our children home from school and will not be taking them for the vaccine. What is the difference then in taking a chance on the disease, and not getting the vaccine? And to Mark Sutcliffe on CFRA who seems to know very little on this subject, I found it very curious while listening to you on the radio that you take the opinion of Health officials at face value. You said you were not aware of ANY problems regarding this vaccine. Well, it’s hard to believe someone who cannot do any digging for himself, and actually sent someone out to look at telephone polls to confirm a callers claim. Next time try Google, it took me 5 minutes to find the information for this article, maybe I should fill in for Lowell Green next time.

There are just too many questions and concerns about the safety of this vaccine to subject our family to it with the arms length possible side effects and potential devastating or life threatening possibilities.
As beast stated, we made a personal decision NOT to take the chances of the above stated reasons vs the risk of coming down with the H1N1 flu.
For now, we are keeping our families exposure limited as we are seeing a decline in our childrens school attendance and will rely on good old fashioned universal precautions.
Hand washing everytime they are out ( hand santizers are in basically every store) and in our schools.
Hand washing when you enter the home from being outside. I do have an elevated fear and perhaps some would say I would be over-reacting, but I intend to get my son who’s semester would be compromised with any more missed school, ( long story ) to shower when he comes home from school.
Sanitizing our door handles and fawcetts and countertops.
Vitamins, ( veggies not so easy)
lot’s of rest etc…
Our schools are said to be at an OUTBREAK level at 10% of kids missing from the schools and home sick. H1N1 or not…could be and one of my kids schools is at 7.8% of the pop. at home, the other was reluctant to tell me but I pushed for his answer which was between 7-9% home sick.
They are to my knowledge planning on shutting schools down at 10%. I intend to follow up on the attendance levels and we will see what happens when they reach 10%.
IMO ~ should be by the end of the week. Our clinics ( I was there twice last week for myself) were seeing outrageous numbers of people everyday. Last Tuesday, 160 “sick” PEOPLE before 1pm. The average on a normal day is around 100 for the entire day.
On thursday….by the end of the day they were almost at 200 mark.
One more thing, PARENTS…THOSE OF YOU WHO SEND YOUR SNOTTY NOSED, COUGHING , MOMMY I DON’T FEEL GOOD KIDS TO SCHOOL ARE THE BIGGEST PROBLEM. KEEP YOUR KIDS AT HOME.
This is what spreads the most..sneezing, coughing kids who don’t know the importance of NOT sneezing on your hands, washing hands, covering your mouth with the crook of your arm to sneeze or cough. kids touch everything and leave germs on every surface of a classroom.
We had an 11 year old girl die from the swine flu who lived here in Cornwall this past weekend. My heart goes out to her and her family.
Our children, especially our little 5 year old will not be swaping germs with the children of mothers and fathers who send their sick kids to school. At least not until we see where this is going and start seeing the number of kids absent down to 3-4 %.
If I were a teacher, I would be imposing a MANDATORY hand santizing policy when you enter my room and when you leave.
A small squirt at the entering of any room or store and one when you leave could very well save your life or that of a loved one!
HAND WASHING HAS NEVER KILLED ANYONE, proper hygiene and awareness has never killed anyone nor has it paralyzed them or caused them to exhibit signs of an irreversible neurological disorder.
So, there ya have it…my rant for the day…I am somewhat distressed on the decision I have had to make but a decision HAD TO BE MADE…and a plan B for any consequences of that decision is far easier to impliment then facing something worse happening to anyone in my family by taking the shot.
Just in case I wasn’t clear NO TO THE VACCINE…
The vaccine in question is a new vaccine but the adjuvant is not. It has been used in Europe since the 90’s for flu vaccination.
My concern as a primary caregiver to my 3 year old and my 5 month old is their health. To that end, they recieve regular immunization shots for diseases like polio. This in my opinion is no different.
And do those shots have the same side effects risk? No. And has this vaccine been tested as extensively as those? No. There is a difference. After the shot, you don’t get a second chance to say no.
Talk about fearmongering, this post takes the cake!
Did you run out and get your shot, like you were scared in to doing? THAT’S fear mongering.. A difference in opinion that means life and death, is worth discussing. No?
I like to call it being informed….there is a risk either way..IT’S CALLED MAKING AN INFORMED DECISION NOT FEAR MONGORING…that kind of comment IMO is of someone who does not care to know the risks in fear of HAVING to make a decision…that’s your perogative…GOOD LUCK!
I will not take the vaccine. My dad was ‘fear mongered’ into taking it. His doctor said patients with heart conditions are at tremendous (NOTE THE WORD TREMENDOUS) risk of dying if they get H1N1. UH really? I can’t find anything definitively supporting his claims because no one is reporting any underlying health issues a patient may have. Well since theres 5x’s more people dying of regular flu, I’ll take my chances. I’ve been to Mexico recently (REAL Mexico villages where we hug snotty nosed kids who live in straw huts & chickens racing on the road) and we’re all healthy.
I guess we live our lives and don’t worry about the whatifs around the corner. If we get H1N1 the chances of dying from it are very very low. The risk of a new vaccine rushed to the market? I’ll sit back and see how many lawsuits pop up to see how many people it’s harmed or killed. The craze of Gardisil (vaccinating our teen girls) have so many deaths and paralyzing young women, thus new lawsuits popping up, its hard to trust anything any longer.
Take normal common sense precautions. That’s my 2cents of a rant. I AGREE WITH C/A by the way!!!

Hey capy ~ just so you know we DO NOT want to sway anyone from doing what they feel is best for their family or themselves. We hear all the “good” as well which leaves us no choice but to weigh the facts that are out there. Mostly because we have to make this decision for 5 other people. That’s weighing the most on my mind! Our children depend on us to keep them safe and healthy and this is a HUGE decision we have taken very seriously and certainly has left us praying we made the right decision. It was not an easy decision.
We have recieved the reg. flu shot for years now. Is it different from the H1N1…of course it is or we wouldn’t have two different vaccines.. ( comment to daryl) so yes we still intend to get the reg. flu shot.
The thing is, so many people ‘trust” the words of officials and we should be able to do that. However, in this situation, there is alot out there that contradicts or imposing real and worse threats then the flu itself.
Here’s the big picture.
#1 ` Get the shot ~ anyone of us could have an unknown underlying recessive component in our genetic make up that can cause debilitating life long effects.
or ~ we could be fine and never have any negative reaaction.
as well…you may never get it and praise the shot or you could still get sick and die or recover.
The point is…we don’t know! It’s all about what we don’t know, more so then what we do know and there is no way of knowing.
Don’t get the shot ~ you still have all the variable outcomes listed above except you DO NOT run the risk of being that 1 or 2% or more of the population that end up suing for life long damages and a ruined life..
IT’S A GAMBLE EITHER WAY….in the end IMO it’s a personal decision NOT A RIGHT OR WRONG one.
Now I’ll add this comment after my phone call tonight. My dad is sick. He got the shot yesterday morning. Hmmmm coincidence I’m sure. Now what? He heads to the hospital to sit there and wait… geesh. Flu shots can’t make people sick, naw it’s just weird timing.

He just phoned me said he’s feeling generally okay. Runny nose, slight cough, still in ER apparently with mild grade fever.
When I first replied to your story Beast, I knew he took the h1 vaccine but didn’t know he wasn’t feeling well. Now reading more online, it concerns me and angers me. His sister-in-law who’s a nurse told me its just a coincidence. She said no one ever gets sick from a flu shot. Okay? Really? I keep hearing how people do. He’s healthy and 61 but yes with heart condition. Had heart attack at 49 yrs old. ??? Grrrrrr frustrating and he’s all the way in Canada.
If anything else gets worse, I’ll update you. If you don’t hear from me assume things are fine. I just have busy day tomorrow but if things get worse I’m going to blow a fuse.

I don’t know about the Swine Vaccine, but never had a flu shot – and always got the flu! Found a great Dr. in the issue of Top Docs (The Philadelphia Magazine), and really liked and respected her. She told me to get a Flu shot. I didn’t want to. She knew I got sick every single winter, and have damaged lungs from the second hand smoke. I have gotten the REGULAR flu shot for the past next 6 years and haven’t been sick at all.
THIS is an entirely different ball of wax tho. Scary. I must go back and listen to all the videos tomorrow. The Drs. won’t even take their own shots? Oh boy … speaks VOLUMES to me! BTW got my regular flu shot 3 weeks ago. I am very careful tho, those wipes on the handles of the carts in the food markets, WON’T USE THE COMMUNAL PENS they give you to sign for your VISA. Use my own pen!!
Dad called about 5am he seems to be fine? Fever was only 38C. Sorry don’t know farenheit. My sister is with him so I’m sure he’ll be okay. no worsening symptoms. But can you get the swine flu from the vaccine?? I don’t have a clue and I didn’t want to ask him, he was so tired. I’m still frustrated how this unfolded. Busy day ttyl all.
I don’t know if you can get the actual flu from the vaccine. The “officials”? say they give you a dead form of the bug so your body builds up immunity to the real thing…but if your dad is NOT worsening yet still sick I am sure he will be fine. I heard that a hallmark of this flu is rapid worsening after onset of symptoms..that is what differentiates it from the reg. flu.

Just learning about this new vaccine, or trying to.
Years ago, a friend of mine got a regular flu shot, and got SICK! Well, everyone thought the SHOT made him sick. I talked to my Dr. as I was getting mine. She said.. there are many many strains of the flue. It takes about 2 weeks for your own anti-bodies to kick in and help make you immune. (My friend got sick 3 days later). He might have already been exposed to a flu that year, and his anti bodies weren’t developed yet …
I just had a conversation with a good friend from Canada. He said probably our Primary Dr. could give the most educated guess, as to what we should individually do regarding the “swine flu shot”. I will weigh his opinion heavily here. He IS wonderful, recent Army Dr. He gets there every morning before anyone and goes over the files of each individual patient that he will see – that day.

I have been doing alot of reading about vaccinations of late. Both for and against. Most of the pro-vaccine info that I have read so far doesn’t really give any hard scientific evidence to back up their claims. If you can direct me to some, I’d like to see it. I have, however, read some very convincing info against vaccines. I know that many vaccines contain mercury, and aluminum, and other nasty ingredients that are not good for you. If I am correct, theese are used to help the vaccine bind to your blood cells.
I have never gotten a flu shot, and rarely get the flu, when I do it is gone in a day or two. I, personally don’t trust anything that comes from the big drug companies. They have one concern in mind; Make more money.
I can only speak for myself, we all have to make our own decisions. There is alot of info out there, some good, some not, but I urge everyone to do a little research. Inform yourselves, look into both sides, and make an informed decision. Do not just beleive everything you are told. Do not be afraid to question the powers that be,(government, drug companies etc.). One thing I will tell you, Vitamin D will help to prevent any form of influenza. Why don’t we see anyone telling us to make sure we take vitamin D? Why do you think flu season hits in fall / winter? Because there is less sun, witch means we get less Vitamin D. If a person has a good diet, gets a little excercise,( go for a walk daily), and drinks lots of water, (make sure your water doesn’t contain flouride, Aquafina has 0.3 ppm), wash your hands regularly, you will drastically reduce the chances of getting influenza, not to mention many other

I havn’t had the flu shot in 12 years and when I did get them I got sick every time. I wouldn’t go near a flu shot or H1N1 shot.
Do you know how much Mercury is in the H1N1 shot? Its scary! And they want pregnant women and children to take this shot?? I cant even eat that much tuna because of the risk to my baby let alone a shot chalk full of it.

OMG – I am going crazy on WHAT TO DO…
As you can see from my posts I have never been 100% sure of anything regarding this b.s flu..Have been reading and weighing risks to each individual as we have such a wide range of “category” in our house. As time goes by, conflicting mesages still swirl around in my head. WHAT HAS MORE RISK?
I am starting to feel the pressure with healthy teens dying from this flu..High risk categories seem to be the young adults…I have never felt this pressured in making different decisions for each individual in my house regarding such a serious health risk either way.
I have Stacy..HIGH RISK…if she doesn’t get the shot..let’s face it..she is not strong enough if this is killing young healthy teens. The deaths are due to complications meaning their lungs are INFESTED with the virus that they basically suffocate..breathing capacity in healthy people as low as 40 precent..that is where stacy is on a healthy day. So let’s take that and compromise her lungs with H1N1….THAT WOULD MEAN NEGATIVE 20 PERCENT…IN OTHER WORDS THAT MEANS DEATH…NO IF AND OR BUTS…
We also have HIN1 TARGETED AGE GROUP WITH OUR TEEN BOYS…healthy but so were the ones that have died rapidly after onset of symptoms. Evan from Etobioke Ontario the latest!
We are told our girls are also high risk…3 and 5..We are waiting to send our SK back to school…and see what is going to happen after our first local injection clinics this past weekend with their age group.

CeeA do you have a really great hospital there? Could you make one appointment with the Head of their Infectious Diseases Department, or maybe just talk to one of his nurses?
Maybe if you explained the very complicated situation,and everything going on, he would be kind enough to give you his educated opinion as what you should do for each one? Seems so awful to be so in the dark ~ and play Russian Roulette … with LIVES? Or maybe he would allow you to write a letter stating the facts (I learned keep it on one page only or they all get bugged!),then maybe he could better answer you?
Do you have anything like The Philadelphia Magazine had, issues of TOP DOCS? Could look in there for an Infectious Disease Specialist. I got nothing but GREAT DRS. from those issues. Honestly, I talked so much about it here, wanted that out here so badly, that NOW the Eugene Magazine has one issue a year, called TOP DOCS! Can you believe that? Hopefully I said it to the right person. My new Dr. from the Army got in that issue in only one year after coming to Eugene!!! Yeaaa Dr. B.

CA take a deep breath and relax. You’re doing what you can for your family. It sure is a catch 22. We had the first death in the USA in the early spring and things went crazy for awhile. We’d go out and if anyone coughed, everyone jumped. Its very scary when it happens close to home and happening to healthy kids. We will not get the shot but that’s all just a personal choice. I can understand your deep concerns especially when it comes to Stacy!
I think what we have to do is educate ourselves about the symptoms of H1N1 and how its a subtle difference from the regular flu. If your child cannot stay hydrated, that’s the biggest problem in organ failure and it can happen fast. There’s children dying here too but I wish the media would also report there’s healthy kids who die from the regular flu every year as well. Its just not publicized and I don’t know why the pendulum in the media is towards this particular strain and not others. Sending you hugs CA <3. On my flight from Texas to NJ,the majority of passengers were Asian and ALL of them HAD ON MASKS! When the Captain made an announcement this plane was giong to Bejing,after a quick layover to refuel in Newark! THEN IT SUNK IN! At first I thought it was kinda funny,BUT after the announcement,I understood. NOW GOD is punishing me~
I’ve got the flu myself here,yesterday it hit me FULL FORCE and I usually don’t get sick,I guess all those years working around the sick.I built up a good immune system.BUT this flu is horrible,I’m not a complainer,BUT EVERY BONE and MUSCLE in body aches and I have a headace,that’s only surpassed by my aneurysm headache!

I’m cooking so many beautiful recipes from Heart for my family,and I can only have ginger ale and broth(nausea,stuffy nose)I was FINE! it hits FAST and HARD and this is just the basic flu,I can’t even imagine what those poor people go through with the Swine flu?? MAKES YA THINK!

Long read but OMG…this poor mother…this poor child!!! Lives ruined…no turning back…and still today..such agony despair…uncertainty!!!
Ok..the family is taking a coctail of vitamins and immune support and the boys DID NOT get the shot…finally..I have come to terms with the whole damn thing. The decision has been made and the boys have returned to school today.
Our baby girl will likely return on Wednesday..and Stacy is staying out for the 8-10 days they say the body takes to build up the antibodies. Let’s hope she is protected..that’s all I can do at this point.
Slowly getting back to some kind of normalcy and praying this all blows over …
